With a traditional Wi-Fi deployment, CAT5/6
is run to each wireless access point located at optimal locations for blanket
wireless coverage – usually in the ceilings. Oftentimes this leaves
the wireless access points vulnerable to security risks and increases operational
costs with maintenance and support issues. Installing the necessary cabling
is costly and the ongoing operational costs of managing lots of ceiling-mounted
Wi-Fi access points can be burdensome.
An alternative to the traditional deployment is integrating with a Distributed
Antenna System. By installing a multi-purpose wireless solution with fiber, broadband
coax and remote antennas, multiple wireless technologies can be shared on the
same system – including Wi-Fi. More secure than a traditional deployment,
the DAS alternative increases protection by placing your network equipment in
a secured location and decreases maintenance costs. By sharing the implementation
costs across all of your wireless projects, the total cost of your installation
decreases. Along with cost savings, other benefits include: easier management
of capacity issues and better planning for additional applications such as WVoIP
and real-time location based services.
